James Earl Carter Jr. (October 1, 1924 – December 29, 2024) was the 39th president of the United States, serving from 1977 to 1981. Known for his emphasis on human rights and diplomacy, he brokered the historic Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt and established the Departments of Energy and Education. After his presidency, Carter continued his humanitarian work, founding The Carter Center and receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts in promoting peace and combating disease worldwide.
