They Won Their Battle; Now It's On Us

Eighty years ago, members of the Greatest Generation raised the American flag during the Battle of Iwo Jima in defense of freedom and democracy. Today, the test of our times is a battle against fascism and in defense of democracy on our own soil. Everything is at stake and, this time, winning is on us.

Eighty years ago this week, a group of brave U.S. Marines raised the American flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima.

That moment—captured in one of history’s most iconic photographs—symbolized the courage, sacrifice, and determination of a nation committed to defending freedom against overwhelming odds.

Today, we face a different but equally urgent battle: the fight to preserve democracy itself. Authoritarianism and extremist movements are gaining ground both at home and abroad, threatening the very principles that generations of Americans have fought and died to protect.

The flag-raising at Iwo Jima reminds us that no challenge is too great when we stand together to defend our ideals.
As we look for inspiration and hope in our fight, we don’t have to look further than what those we are honoring today symbolized:

  • Unyielding Courage in the Face of Adversity – The Marines at Iwo Jima faced almost impossible odds, yet they pressed forward with determination. Today, we must show the same courage in resisting authoritarianism and standing up for democratic values, even when the challenges seem overwhelming.
  • Unity and Collective Strength – Victory at Iwo Jima wasn’t achieved by individuals but through a shared mission and solidarity. In our fight against fascism today, we must work together—across communities, backgrounds, and beliefs—to protect democracy and human rights.
  • Sacrifice for a Greater Cause – The men who fought at Iwo Jima understood that their struggle was about more than themselves; it was about future generations. Similarly, the fight against authoritarianism today requires commitment, persistence, and sometimes personal sacrifice to safeguard freedom for all.
  • Resilience Against Setbacks – The battle for Iwo Jima was grueling and filled with setbacks, yet the Marines adapted and persevered. Likewise, in the fight against modern authoritarian threats, we must remain resilient, learning from losses and pushing forward with renewed determination.
  • The Power of Symbolism and Inspiration – The flag-raising at Iwo Jima became an enduring symbol of hope and perseverance. Today, we need to create and uphold symbols that inspire people to join the fight for democracy, reminding them that victory is possible even in dark times.

Resolute Square is on the front lines informing Americans, combating disinformation, mobilizing voters on social media, and holding those in power accountable.

You see, the fight against fascism is, at its core, a fight for truth. Without accurate information, people cannot effectively resist oppression or defend democracy. Those in power who seek to impose authoritarian rule fear an informed public because knowledge is the greatest weapon against tyranny.

But we can’t do it alone. Just as the Marines at Iwo Jima relied on each other to achieve victory, we need your support to keep fighting for democracy.

Your donation today will help us :

  • Amplify the facts via social media about the destructive and illegal executive orders and policies being implemented that will dismantle our federal government, our institutions, and the way of life. By ensuring that the truth is widely disseminated, citizens can expose injustice, organize resistance, and ultimately prevent the spread of fascism before it takes hold.
  • Remind Voters of the Ultimate Sacrifice made by Americans who fought against Fascism: Through our pro-democracy commentary, podcasts, streaming programs, and social media, we will raise awareness about the dangers of misinformation and counter lies and bothsidesisms with the truth.
  • Create Sharable, Pro-Democracy News Content: Your contribution will help fund our content and commentary by pro-democracy scholars, strategists and activists who are committed to reporting the truth.
  • Launch Paid Ad Campaigns to reach Americans who aren’t paying attention. Social media enabled the rise of fascism, and that is where we will defeat it. Every $10 you give, helps reach 1,000 Americans with the facts

The Marines who raised the flag on Iwo Jima didn’t know if victory was certain, but they pressed forward because failure was not an option.

That same spirit must guide us now. The future of our democracy depends on what we do today.

This threat to truth and democracy must be confronted with the same courage and determination that our soldiers displayed at Iwo Jima. They defended democracy with their lives; it is now our duty to defend it with our actions.

Please join us in this crucial fight. Your donation, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in our ability to inform and mobilize Americans to stand up and resist - because Fascism thrives in darkness, in the absence of truth.

Yes, I'll pitch in to fight fascism.
